Participation starts with access to work
Through the KUBIK programme (Inclusive Business & Entrepreneurs), young people and young adults with disabilities in Indonesia develop their entrepreneurial skills.
The young entrepreneurs receive support in various ways for running their businesses: their access to financing, information, entrepreneurial networks, markets, and value chains is improved. Through a forum, they share knowledge and experiences and learn from each other.
In this way, the young people and young adults strengthen their financial position, make a valuable contribution to the economic situation of their families, and improve their quality of life.
Our partner NLR Indonesia implements the project, in collaboration with two local partners: Karya Murni Foundation (in Medan, North Sumatra) and Ayo Indonesia (Manggarai district, on the island of Flores).
Change
Candra (26) is one of the participants in KUBIK. Candra has a brain injury and had a difficult childhood. At school, he was bullied, and his father even left the family out of shame for his disability. Through various odd jobs, Candra tried everything to contribute to the family income, but no one gave him a chance.
Everything changed when he took part in a business skills training through KUBIK and received start-up funding of around 260 euros. Candra swapped his job as a street vendor for a local shop that he was able to start thanks to the funding. With the income he now earns, he contributes to the family’s income. This is making him more confident step by step. Candra beams: he feels he is making a difference in his family.
