The starting point: A Rights-Based approach

At the heart of Article 23 of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child is: children with disabilities should be able to live full and decent lives. A life that ensures their dignity while promoting their independence and participation in society. A child with a disability is entitled to special care from the government. This is the basis for our mission and vision.

Our history: one woman, one girl

Liliane Fonds was born from one woman’s determination. Liliane Brekelmans (1929–2009), who contracted polio as a child and was left with permanently paralysed legs, refused to let her disability define her.

Known as “the girl with the handicap”, she fought for independence and a meaningful life. Her life changed when she met Agnes from Indonesia.
