Breaking down Barriers
Our flagship initiative continues to evolve into a collaborative platform where research meets practice. In 2025, we focused on sustaining Community-Based Rehabilitation and Community Based Inclusive Development (CBR/CBID) and strengthening partnerships across continents.

Nexus Project
Operating in Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Bangladesh and Indonesia, Nexus explores disability inclusion in the face of conflict and climate change. The project has produced four learning briefs and is preparing new pilot projects to test inclusive solutions in humanitarian settings.

RehApp in DRC
In South Kivu, we are testing a mobile app that supports CBR workers with disability knowledge and client management tools. This digital innovation is helping us understand how technology can enhance rehabilitation services in low-resource environments.

Youth-Led Research
Under the Make Way programme, youth researchers with disabilities led a groundbreaking study on access to sexual and reproductive health services across five African countries. Their findings offer actionable recommendations and amplify youth voices in policy and practice.

Early Identification and Intervention (EIEI)
Our EIEI approach supports children from birth, embedding inclusive support into health and education systems. In 2025, we conducted literature reviews, engaged over 20 stakeholders through surveys and interviews, mapped relevant policies and explored the formation of a coalition to scale best practices.

Inclusive Education for severely disabled children
New research reveals that children with severe disabilities are often left behind. We advocate for flexible, community-based education models and specialized teacher training to ensure every child has access to meaningful learning.

Looking ahead to 2026
Next year, Liliane Fonds will launch a central learning agenda to guide strategic research. We’ll explore stigma reduction, climate resilience and gender-based violence, while continuing our long-term studies on sustainable CBR and telerehabilitation.
