What is going on in the Philippines?
In the Philippines, children and youth with disabilities are frequently excluded despite progressive laws. Many lack access to education, healthcare, or social protection. Families face high costs for care and assistive devices, while stigma and inaccessible facilities create further barriers. Girls, rural communities, and children with less visible disabilities are especially at risk of being left behind.
Facts and figures
- 40% of children with disabilities attend school
- 1 in 5 eligible children has a disability ID card
- 10% of schools meet accessibility standards
- 77% of children have no health insurance
