What is going on in Uganda?

Uganda has progressive disability laws, but implementation is limited due to low funding, fragmented systems, and persistent stigma. Children and youth with disabilities face major barriers to education, healthcare and livelihoods. Girls with disabilities experience double discrimination, with higher vulnerability to exclusion, violence and limited autonomy.

Facts and figures

  • 10% of children with disabilities attend school
  • 46% of people with disabilities are literate
  • Inclusive education is underfunded

Our work in Uganda

In Uganda, Liliane Fonds partners with a Program Management Unit and over 20 local organisations to support children and youth with disabilities. Through community-based rehabilitation (CBR), we focus on inclusive education, rehabilitation, livelihoods support, and sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR). We strengthen advocacy networks, build local capacity, and empower children and caregivers to demand their rights.
