What is going on in Bangladesh?
Bangladesh is struck by annual cyclones and floods. For children with disabilities, this means a life of added risks, exclusion, and poverty. Many have no access to education, healthcare, or protection. Girls and children in rural or indigenous communities are hit the hardest. Despite progressive laws, most children with disabilities remain invisible to the systems meant to support them.
Facts and figures
- 60% of children with disabilities do not attend school
- 1 in 10 cyclone shelters are accessible
- 1 in 3 children with disabilities is malnourished
- 50% of girls with disabilities are married before 18
