What is going on in Zimbabwe?
Most children and youth with disabilities in Zimbabwe are excluded from education and support, particularly in rural areas. Girls face additional risks such as early marriage, violence, and neglect. Although the government has a National Disability Policy, implementation is weak. Poor data, economic challenges and climate change deepen exclusion, leaving many children without essential services.
Facts and figures
- Over 920,000 children and youth have a disability
- 1% of women report discrimination
- People in rural areas are never assessed for support needs
- Government funding for disability is minimal
