What is going on in Niger?

Niger faces the combined challenges of climate shocks, insecurity and rapid population growth. While the legal framework strongly promotes disability rights, many children and youth with disabilities still face barriers to inclusion. Inclusive and specialized health, education and social services are concentrated in the capital Niamey, further excluding families in rural areas.

Our work in Niger

In Niger, Liliane Fonds works with the National Federation of People with Disabilities (FNPH), Organizations of People with a Disability, local partners and parents, to help children and youth with disabilities access the support, education and opportunities they need to participate fully in their communities.

We focus on the areas where barriers are greatest by:

  • Making healthcare and education services more accessible
  • Empowering youth with disabilities with the skills and opportunities needed for greater independence and social participation
  • Raising community awareness to reduce stigma and misbeliefs on disability
  • Enhancing advocacy efforts for stronger policy implementation
