Olimpipitos in Nicaragua
The Olimpipitos are the ‘Olympic Games’ for children with a mental disability in Nicaragua. The event takes places every two years and is organised by Los Pipitos. This Nicaraguan partner organisation was established by parents of children with a disability.
The young athletes train eagerly to perform well during the popular event. The various sports include running, javelin-throwing, shot put and basketball.
Physical exercise is important for all children, and especially for children with disabilities. It is good for them to experience the relaxing benefits of sports, as well as gaining a sense of competition. Plenty of exercise stimulates their mobility skills. Moreover, sports gives children and youngsters confidence.
